Weekend Reflections is a public graphic memoir to push a black man into being a vulnerable and courageous human being through words and pictures. The book travels through Blackness, relationships, religion, culture and Hip Hop to fully-paint life against the colorless assumptions made by a first glance. WR is a stream of consciousness with out-loud visuals that are full of ambiguous thoughts, contrarian views, and insightful experiences of a Southern, Black, Hip Hop Man that hopes to grow and find understanding by saying the things that are usually left unsaid.
Screenwriter. Playwright. Author. Director. Producer. Breast Cancer Survivor.
Tymika Chambliss is all of those things and so much more. Born in the beautiful city of New Orleans, Louisiana, this chocolate, Cajun woman does not know the meaning of defeat. She began writing stories and poems at the age of 10; writing gave her the opportunity to create a world of her own.
Tymika has worked on and starred in numerous community theater productions, commercials, movies, and web-series for over 10 years; including: Award wining theater productions: The Convert, Simply Simone: Life of Nina Simone, and Mahalia.
In 2017 she made the brave decision to release her words to the world, and she has been soaring ever since through directing theater productions, and writing/director/filming her first television series. She will boldly tell you that the road was never easy, but it was necessary and well worth the journey.
In June 2018, at the age of 39, Tymika Chambliss, scheduled an appointment with her PCP, after finding a small lump in her right breast; from a self-breast exam. The PCP expressed that she was feeling the density of her breast tissue, which posed no concern. Tymika asked for a mammogram. Thankfully, the mammogram was negative.
In October 2019, at the age of 40, Tymika had another mammogram. After comparing it to the previous exam, a biopsy was performed, and on December 26, 2019, she was diagnosed with Stage 1 Breast Cancer. After consulting with her doctor and family, she made the tough decision to sever ties with her right breast. And, on June 3, 2020, Tymika had a full mastectomy. During her recovery, she began doing what she was born to do, write. She began writing a children's book called, Pink HOPE and the HOPE Leaders (2020 Fall release)and through this book, The HOPE Factory was born.
The HOPE Factory is a virtual platform that provides a list of resources for Women of Color, who are on their breast cancer journey. Unfortunately, a key cause of the high mortality rate for women of color is the lack of resources and access to quality health care. The HOPE Factory aims to eliminate the access barrier and bring quality care to those who may have difficulty receiving it. The platform is being built and prepared for Fall 2020 release.
No matter what Tymika has faced, creating is her tool of overcoming and becoming.
